The Laugh Track
We’ve done the research and the results are in: babies are ticklish.

Here she is on keyboards, doing her Stevie Wonder impression. Though Stevie Wonder was never distracted by a picture book about cats. That’s what makes him so special.
Charlotte is up late tonight, jamming to Jimmy Buffett’s greatest hits. First, “Jolly Mon.”
“Volcano” might be her favorite. Also, she’s walking now.
More videos to come later.
Charlotte is one step closer to self-sufficiency. Before you know it, she’ll be changing her own diaper.
Every night, a family of deer graces us with their presence (and eats our grass). Unless Bailey scares them off, they’ll hang out for a good 10-15 minutes. Tonight Charlotte and I went in stealth mode to get a better view.
This is that view.
I will, on occasion, let Charlotte play with the remote control. She enjoys pressing the buttons, and there’s almost zero chance her button pressing will summon the police to our residence. (She likes the phone, too.)

The TV need not be on for her to enjoy the remote. But, as we learned on Friday, the TV need not be on for her to dial up the pay-per-view pornography, either.

When Ellen turned the TV on, this is what she saw. Charlotte didn’t actually go through with the $8.95 purchase of Nude Ebony Honeys, but she was close. And if you think it was me who (almost) ordered this fine film, give me some credit. There’s nothing I could do that would anger Ellen more than add $8.95 to our cable bill. I’d be sleeping in the basement, which is frankly a little scary. Also, there’s no TV down there. I like pressing the remote’s buttons, too.

Charlotte’s daycare offered pony rides for the older kids last week, and my sources tell me Charlotte was a big fan of the little horses. Lots of pointing and saying hello.

She tried to recreate the magic at home with Bailey.

It was very important to Ellen and her Polish roots (well, almost Polish—her family was right across the border in Czechoslovakia) that Charlotte liked pierogies. Sensing this pressure, Charlie couldn’t shovel them into her mouth fast enough.
I haven’t posted a good Charlie-climbing-all-over-her-dog video in a while. Here’s a double-feature:
Bailey doesn’t always respond to Charlotte’s queries, so it makes sense that she’d talk directly into her dog’s ears.
Grabbing the tail? That’s just messing with her.
As an added bonus, here’s a close-up.

Charlotte and I recently visited Ellen at work. Charlotte’s ready for her first internship.

She spotted herself on the wall. Pictures are her thing—we have a wall-hanging family portrait from 2005 that Charlie uses to play “find the Baileys.” Actually, here’s a picture of that picture:

Today is Bailey’s fourth birthday. In dog years, that makes her 28—the same age as Ellen. It will be interesting to see how that changes their relationship.

Even though (for now) I’ve still got a couple years on Bailey, she has stopped respecting our don’t-sleep-on-Dad’s-pillow agreement.
If Bailey’s birthday has made you nostalgic for pup pics from the past, here are a few good links:
