Happy New Year

HSBC.jpg

I have a Hotmail account I rarely check. It’s where I send emails I don’t want to read, including non-essential account updates from HSBC. On March 27, they tried to use New Year’s Day to start a conversation about a Personal Internet Banking Demo (”The New Year is here as is the new HSBC Personal Internet Banking Demo!”)

I will not watch this demo in protest.

That’s a little sketchy. Might be a fishing scam? Or just bad copywriting. Agreed.

This is the third email they’ve sent trying to convince me to watch this ridiculous demo. One had a subject like, “URGENT ACCOUNT UPDATE FROM HSBC: READ IMMEDIATELY.”

It’s not like I keep calling them, peppering the staff with how-to questions. I’m getting along just fine sans demo.

When at first (and second) you don’t succeed, tie your message to New Year’s. New beginnings.

Bofa sent me a similar message the other day with high priority. I figured my identity and savings were lost. When I signed in, the ‘urgent message’ was a diagram of their new online statements. I’m working on a demo today…luckily I’m not in charge of the direct marketing. Although I have been known to send ‘massive liquidation’ and ’sizzling summer suit’ sale emails to millions at aol. Sorry folks.
