Happy New Year! (from Sanjay)
Some of you may know Sanjay. Voted Most Unforgettable in the 1997 Morris Knolls yearbook, Sanjay is by far the most entertaining person I’ve ever met. He sent this email yesterday, ushering in 2007.
I want to wish you all a Happy New Year. I know that you saw the ball drop last night, either in person in Times Square, on television, tuning to ABC, CNN, or any other network that was broadcasting it. When the ball dropped, I was at home, watching it on CNN.
I feel that CNN presented the best coverage than any other network that broadcast New Year’s Eve specials. Like last year, they had three-way split screens, so you can find out what was happening at the same time, they showed members of the Armed Forces joining Mayor Michael Bloomberg pressing the button to lower the ball.
They also showed the celebrations in Chicago, New Orleans, and San Antonio when midnight came to those areas, especially New Orleans, as they continue to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. ABC did not. They showed only Disneyland and Walt Disney World. I didn’t want to see it, since I’m quite grown. If you’re a child or have little children, then seeing it is quite reasonable, since they both are places where children’s dreams and wishes can come true.
We’re all saying Happy New Year with heavy hearts. The world is welcoming the New Year united in sharing a wave of mourning that’s sweeping across the United States following the passing of former president Gerald Ford, who, at this hour, is lying in state, meaning in the rotunda of the Capitol in Washington.
I wish you all a Happy New Year!
